Research and Innovation

Responsible artificial intelligence and inclusive digital technology — the questions I am interested in, and how I intend to work on them.

My interest in responsible artificial intelligence comes from a broader question: who benefits from technological progress, who controls the systems being developed, and who gets left out?

This is an early-stage line of enquiry rather than an established research programme. I am a practitioner who builds software, and my interest in these questions comes from working on products that use data and, increasingly, artificial intelligence. What follows is what I am reading, building and thinking about — not completed research.

Research themes

What I am exploring

  1. Responsible Artificial Intelligence

How AI systems can be built, adopted and governed accountably, with attention to the people affected by automated decisions.

  2. Digital Public Infrastructure

Locally relevant, accessible digital systems that serve communities rather than only the organisations that deploy them.

  3. Education Technology

Tools that support teaching and learning, including assessment, access to guidance and responsible use of AI in classrooms.

  4. Accessible Software and Digital Tools

Software designed for real constraints of bandwidth, device and skill, so that access is not limited to the well equipped.

  5. Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Building and sustaining technology businesses in African contexts, and what that requires beyond the software itself.

Research initiative

Responsible AI and Research

Research in Progress

Responsible AI and Research is an emerging initiative exploring how artificial intelligence can be developed, adopted and used responsibly, with particular attention to African contexts, language inclusion, privacy and accessibility. It is an early-stage line of enquiry associated with my work at Supreonix, not an established research institution and not a registered organisation.

Research questions

How can African communities participate more meaningfully in shaping AI systems?
What would responsible AI adoption look like in resource-constrained educational environments?
How can African languages become better represented in AI systems?
How can individuals retain meaningful control over their data when interacting with AI technologies?

Areas of investigation

Accountability and transparency in automated decision-making
Language inclusion and representation in AI datasets
AI use in education, including assessment
Data protection and user autonomy
Locally relevant and community-centred digital infrastructure

Proposed research activities

Reading and writing on responsible AI in African contexts
Prototyping tools that expose how AI-assisted decisions are made
Documenting what is learned from building products in this space

Potential collaborations

I am interested in collaborating with researchers, educators, language communities and practitioners working on responsible AI, language inclusion and digital rights. No partnerships are established at this stage.

Future publications

Research notes and essays on responsible AI adoption, language inclusion and privacy are in preparation. Nothing has been published yet.

This initiative is associated with my work at Supreonix. It is not an established research institution and no partnerships or publications are claimed.
